The basketball court may be rough and rural but it doesn’t stop the Zithulele wheelchair basketball team from enjoying their time in the spotlight.

Exercise and camaraderie

Initiated by CBM’s partner organisation and enthusiastically supported by the local community, the players of Zithulele wheelchair basketball in South Africa team enjoy both the outdoor exercise and sense of camaraderie that comes from being part of a team.

Thanks to the availability of 10 sports wheelchairs the group trains regularly as a full basketball team and often compete in friendly matches against the carers from the Zithulele Hospital Rehab Centre.  The fun, laughter and healthy competition between the wheelchair and non-wheelchair teams is a shining example of how people can work together to build bridges, form friendships and achieve an inclusive society.
